Psychological Testing and Assessments

Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI): A 21-point assessment covering the following symptoms -- numbness or tingling, feeling hot, wobbliness in legs, unable to relax, fear of the worst happening, dizzy or lightheaded, heart pounding or racing, unsteady, terrified, nervous, feelings of choking, hands trembling, shaky, fear of losing control, difficulty breathing, fear of dying, scared, indigestion or discomfort in abdomen, faint, face flushed, sweating (not due to heat).

Beck Depression Inventory - Second Edition (BDI-II): A 21-point assessment covering sadness, pessimism/hopelessness, past failure, loss of pleasure, guilty feelings, punishment feelings, self-dislike, self-criticalness, suicidal thoughts and wishes, crying, agitation, loss of interest, indecisiveness, worthlessness, loss of energy, changes in sleeping pattern, irritability, changes in appetite, concentration difficulty, tiredness or fatigue, loss of interest in sex.

Measures of Psychosocial Development (MPD): This Eriksonian-based instrument provides a measure of the positive and negative attitudes associated with each of the eight developmental stages, the status of conflict resolution at each stage, and an index of overall psychosocial health. Interpretation focuses on healthy personality development and growth. The MPD consists of 27 scales. Attitudes that describe the basic dimensions of personality are measured by eight Positive and eight Negative Scales. The direction and degree of resolution between the Positive and Negative Scales is reflected in the eight Resolution Scales. Three Total Scales provide measures of overall psychosocial adjustment. Users respond to the 112 items on a separate Answer Sheet using a 5-point scale ranging from Very Much Like Me to Not At All Like Me.

Personality Disorders_Millon Clinical Multiaxial Inventory-III (MCMI-III) provides an evaluation for emotional, behavioral, or interpersonal difficulties. This assessment will help identify personality characteristics underlying an individual's symptoms and to facilitate discussion for treatment possibilities.

Posttraumatic Stress Diagnostic Scale (PDS): This assessment is designed to aid in the detection and diagnosis of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). The PDS assessment parallels DSM-IV diagnostic criteria for a PTSD diagnosis and may be administered repeatedly over time to help monitor changes in symptoms.

Self-Directed Search Form R: 4th Edition (SDS): A career counseling experience. Based on Dr John L Holland's RIASEC theory that both people and work can be classified according to six basic types: Realistic, Investigative, Artistic, Social, Enterprising, and Conventional (RIASEC), the SDS enables individuals to choose careers and field of study that best match their self-reported skills and interests. Intensive research has shown that people whose job and work environments most closely match their personal style and interests tend to consider themselves satisfied and successful with the occupational choices they have made.

What is the Difference Between Testing and Assessments?

Psychological testing is simpler,
structured and usually involves
one procedure. It is a procedure
intended to establish the quality performance, or reliability of
something. The data is
used to help make decisions.
Psychological assessment is more
complex and involves various
procedures (e.g., interviews
testing tools), as well as
information from collateral
sources (e.g., family, mental health providers). It is an evaluation of the nature, quality, or ability of someone.
Assessments from HopeAllianz Inc are
based on a biopsychosocial model
which includes demographic data
client preferences and barriers to
achieving client preferences,
current symptom checklist, medical
and psychiatric history, family history, substance use, developmental history, socio-economic history, mental
status exam, client strengths and
barriers to recovery, treatment recommendations and resources.
